On August 12, 2017, Goodwin, along with Michael A. Ramos, Joshua Thomas King, Daniel Borden and another unidentified white supremacist, were photographed assaulting a counter protester at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, identified as Deandre Harris, with poles.  
Harris was left with eight staples in his head, a broken wrist and a chipped tooth.  Shaun King (activist) has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the proper identification of the other men in the photo who assaulted Harris. 
After a week since the rally, many of the attackers were all still missing, a large anti-fascist community were on the look out for his location in order to contact the police. Shaun King has taken to Facebook to discuss his whereabouts and location, sharing new information that comes his way.  
On November 16th, 2017, Goodwin was extradited to Charlottesville, Virginia to face charges for the physical assault against Deandre Harris. He had been held at the Lonoke County jail since his arrest on October 10th, 2017. 
On the evening of September 24th, 2017, Shaun King took to his Twitter and Facebook to share his finding that Jacob Scott Goodwin has been one of the unidentified attackers who were never arrested for the assault of Deandre Harris.
