IMO is a non-profit, provincially registered organization, which was established in 1994. The building is located on 3.5 acres of land in one of the major Muslim areas of the city of Toronto. The centre is easily accessible by car and public transportation, which is approximately 5 minutes away from Pearson International Airport. The building is about 50,000 sq. ft. and is open for five daily prayers. The prayer areas can accommodate a large congregation of worshippers and there are other sections, which are used for educational and social purposes. A huge parking lot for more than 200 cars surrounds the building. The organization is managed by a “board of directors” consisting of nine members.[1]

 

Aims and Objectives:

 

To promote and advance the spiritual teachings of Islam in Canada and abroad and to give a good understanding of Islam to everyone and to clear confusion and correct misconceptions about Islam and Muslims. To establish good relations with the Community at large by reaching out and helping out in different common activities that intend to relieve the suffering of others or help to create harmony, mutual respect and tolerant environment. To reach the public through the available media and through our publications, newsletters and open houses.[1]

 

Religious Services Conducted:

 

- The five daily prayers
- Friday prayer
- Taraaweeh prayers in Ramadan
- Eid prayers
- Funerals

- Imam’s office which is open for the community for counseling, consultation, and assistance.

 

Projects under preparation and study:

 

- Hira Islamic School
- Childcare
- Islamic and Cultural Reference Library
- Fostering Home for orphans and separated children
