Hillary Susz is a 22 year old Western Washington University graduate in Creative Writing. She learned to sing by running till her legs went limp in Colbert Washington, harmonizing with a train’s chorus of trumpets. Her lyrical voice runs through the odds and ends of the ironic, heartbreaking, and haunting aspects of existing as a sensitive young woman in a world populated by cliché’s and people aspiring to live in them. There is no act Hillary commonly gets compared to. She is cross genre– fuzz rock n roll, iconoclastic folk, and electro-pop. The vibrato in her voice is thick, loud, raw, and soaring.
“Susz writes and performs love songs that convincingly delve into the heartache and soul-rattling of someone twice her age…her sound is raw and chaotic.” Spokane Metro Magazine. Her voice has been described as a “powerhouse” and her songs as “unusual and beautiful” What’s up Magazine and as “emotional, spiritual, and intellectual and vibrant” and in her capacity as a songwriter she “can make shape out of abstractions and then fill that shape with what can only be described as truth, at its most profound, until her music and her heart are as tangible as the wood and wire constituting her guitar” The Spokesman Review.
Listeners often remark “her voice gives me chills”. Particularly when she belts lines like, “If I pet the back of your neck will you be my animal?” Her discography includes : Solo: Hot Heart 2012, Junk Yard 2011, The Stare Well Sessions 2010, Love is Perfect 2009. With Tommy Trzcynski: What Mouths are Made For 2013. Her most recent What Mouths Are Made For is a pop album that both embraces and reinvents the term. Hillary teamed up with producer Tommy Trzcynski to personally deliver songs that are intelligent, confrontational, and often just plain fun, too boot. Hillary’s heroes include Nina Simon, Neko Case, and PJ Harvey.
Hillary has toured through Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Utah, and Idaho.
She has shared the stage with national acts such as The Head and The Heart, Nurses, The Jesus Rehab, Robert Sarazan Blake, and City Mouse [+]
