Heather D. Heyer was a 32-year-old resident of Charlottesville, Virginia. She was identified as the person who was run over and killed by James Alex Fields Jr. at the Unite the Right rally.

 

She was a paralegal with the Miller Law Group.

 

Personal Life

Heather Heyer was a Greene County, Virginia native and an American graduate of William Monroe High School. She was part of the 2003 graduating class.[7][3][10]

 

Ms. Heyer lived alone with her Chihuahua, Violet, who was named after her favorite color.[14]

Politics

She supported Bernie Sanders in the Democratic Party presidential primaries in 2016 and was open about those political views on her Facebook wall.

Death

On August 12, 2017, during the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, Heyer died and 19 others were injured when a Dodge Challenger driven by James Alex Fields Jr. rammed a crowd of counter protesters gathered to oppose the rally of white nationalist and other right-wing groups. Marissa Blair, a friend of Heather Heyer who was at the incident, said, “We were just marching around, spreading love —and then the accident happened. In a split second, you see a car, and you see bodies flying.”

 

GoFundMe campaign started for Heyer raised over $40,000 in 8 hours. They eventually raised $224,975. [10]


Heyer's mom, Susan Bro, refused a phone call from President Donald Trump offering his condolences. Bro said: “I’m not talking to the President now. I’m sorry. After what he said about my child—and it’s not that I saw somebody else’s tweets about him. I saw an actual clip of him at a press conference equating the protesters like Ms. Heyer with the KKK and the white supremacists.”

Daily Stormer Controversy

Nazi website The Daily Stormer's Founder Andrew Anglin wrote an article mocking Heyer after her death. As a result, both GoDaddy and Google dropped the site.[13]
