Gabi is very close to her sister, Yvette Holzwarth, who is also a musician.
She says that Travis Kalanick has helped her rise from being a street violinist in Palo Alto to a serious musician. She and Travis met when she was hired to play violin at venture capitalist Shervin Pishevar's house. Holzwarth was discovered by Pishevar while she was performing in the violin outside a Trader Joe's.
Gabi had a very rough childhood. She is half-Chinese, half-American. She was sexually abused by her tennis instructor, and developed an eating disorder.
In 2017, Holzwarth revealed that she had accompanied Uber executives to pick up prostitutes at a bar in Korea in 2014. One of the executives was a woman, four others were men, including Emil Michael, who had been under the spotlight for making threats to reporter Sarah Lacy.
