François Sonnet is a Catalan (Andorra)-based renewable energy advocate, expert and cofounder of ElectriCChain, a nonprofit affiliate of renewable energy cryptocurrency SolarCoin. ElectriCChain is the distributed ledger, self-organizing decentralized swarm intelligence Internet of Things (IoT) that forms SolarCoin's blockchain backbone.
Sonnet graduated with a masters in finance engineering, with honors, from ICHEC Brussels Management School. He began his career with Euronext, Lloyds International Banking Group, and the audit firm PwC in Luxemburg. He is an expert in solar energy business models, having cofounded Belgium's number one award-winning solar installer, SunSwitch SA, in 2007 using pocket-seed capital. He built the company to over one hundred employees and a $20M Euro turnover in under thirty months, logging 2.000 solar installs and island systems.
ElectriCChain was cofounded in January 2016 by Starlab alumni Nick Gogerty and Christopher Altman, with Sonnet and Japan-based solar advocate Luke Johnson, under support from the SolarCoin Foundation.
Sonnet currently works as solar advisor to affiliates joining the SolarCoin ecosystem and solar industry, and leads ElectriCChain as the open-source blockchain backbone of SolarCoin. The initiative forms the lowest carbon currency, the largest environmental monitoring experiment, and the largest private renewable energy project in the world. To date, the project has distributed more than 9 Million MWh of solar power across 62 countries: more than enough to power the city of Amsterdam and its residents for a full year.
