Ester started her career in 2006 as an Editorial Assistant at Bedford/St. Martin's. In 2008-2009, she was a Founding Editor of Unigo, LLC. From 2009 to 2013, Ester worked at Foundation for Jewish Culture, firstly as a Program Associate, and later as a Manager of Institutional Development and Communications. From 2014 to 2016, she was an Editor at The Billfold. Currently, Ester is a Contributing Writer at The Atlantic and Senior editor at CNBC.
Among other venues, her work appears in Slate, Salon, Creative Nonfiction (magazine), Vulture (blog), Flavorwire, Quartz, and The Daily Dot, where she wrote the advice column Aunt Acid, formerly of The Toast.
Ester is the recipient of the 2014 Creative Non-Fiction Prize from Dogwood Literary, she has been interviewed on MSNBC, MTV.com, HuffPost Live, WPIX Channel 11 Morning News, The Geraldo Rivera Show, Bitch magazine’s Popaganda podcast, Vice’s The Business of Life, and Slate’s United States of Debt podcast.
