Enigma is a marketplace for data that is decentralized, open, and secure. With Enigma, the team claims data sharing will be revolutionized in the same way that Bitcoin has revolutionized payments.
Catalyst allows anyone to build their own crypto hedge fund by consuming financial data from the company's data marketplace and backtesting and trading strategy development tools.
Initial Coin Offering (ICO)
Enigma Catalyst held an Initial Coin Offering (ICO) from September 11, 2017 through September 21, 2017 with a total hard cap goal of $45mm USD. This hard cap goal included $20mm USD already raised through the Enigma Catalyst Pre-ICO (also referred to as "pre-sale") which left an effective $25mm USD of available investments.
During the Enigma Catalyst Pre-ICO, the team was subject to a coordinating hacking and phishing attempt in which hackers took control of the official Engima Catalyst website and many of the social media accounts of the team members. Hackers swapped out the receive address on the website and tricked users into sending 1492 ETH (Ether), worth $494,170.68 at the time of the hack.
Even with a successful phishing attempt and hack, the team still went on to reach their combined $45mm goal for their Pre-ICO and ICO.
