Detour is a mobile app for taking audio walks. Detour's location-aware technology guides you to interesting places you pass as you walk. The Founders are Andrew Mason, former CEO of Groupon, and Yishai Lerner.
Mason first was inspired after traveling in Europe with his future wife and wanted more context and authenticity with the places he was touring. With the advent of the iPhone, the concept of Detour could be implemented in reality. Tours cost $4.99 each. Subscriptions for all the tours in a city are $20. "Most of the audio tours that exist today are about what's popular inside museums, so what we are trying to do is turn the world into a museum," Mason told the Associated Press.
