From around 1970 - 1974, the Dead paid homage to American music. With studio albums like Workingman's Dead, American Beauty, Wake of the Flood, Mars Hotel, and live albums like Live Dead, Europe '72 and Bear's Choice, the Dead were able to put their own twist on the American story.
Fast forward a few years (ok, almost 40) and the music is still as fresh and meaningful as it was back then. Enter Cowboys Dead. More than a cover band, Cowboys Dead, under the musical direction of Colorado music scene veteran Dave Dardine, takes the music and makes it their own. You won't hear note for note copies of Jerry leads or exact orchestrations of sets - other bands do that quite well. What Cowboys Dead seeks to do is carry on the tradition of music that relates the working class, bringing to each song their own distinctly Colorado experience. [+]
