Portland Magazine calls her music "sparkling and dark, intriguing and entrancing" while the Portland Phoenix dubbed Clara Berry's last release a "grab-you-by-thethroat introduction". This October Berry will release her 2nd full-length album, The Magician's Wife.
Berry grew up by the sea in Southern Maine, writing her delicate, twisting melodies and enchanting story-based lyrics. Meanwhile Joe O'Neill, the primary force of Wooldog, grew up on Boston's South Shore, garnering influence from Billy Martin and John Zorn and wailing on pickle buckets in the Cambridge streets. The two met at a show in Lowell, MA and later found their styles to be perfectly complementary.
Not long after they would commence recording with producer Bradford Swanson (The Bad Plus, Mason Jennings) on The Magician's Wife. With the help of many volunteers the group spent hours in the studio writing, arranging and recording until they had created an album that truly captures the dynamic nature of Berry's songs.
The Magician's Wife is scheduled for release on October 15th 2013 and will be Berry's second full-length album following Wave (2008) and the five-song EP Creature (2010). [+]
