Brian Hreniuc is a pharmacist at the Walgreens Pharmacy at 9040 W Peoria Ave, Peoria, AZ 85345.
On June 21, 2018, Brian refused to distribute Nicole Arteaga's prescription on personal beliefs. Artega later wrote in a facebook post, “I stood at the mercy of this pharmacist explaining my situation in front of my 7 year old, and five customers standing behind only to be denied because of his ethical beliefs.”. He also refused to allow the other pharmisists to hand her the prescription. On June 19, 2018, she learned the devastating news that her 9-week-old fetus had died inside of her, and that her body was slowly getting ready to miscarry. She was prescribed a medication called Misoprostol, which can be prescribed for a failed pregnancy, to allow her to pass the deceased fetus and tissue from her body.
Later in the day she received an email that the prescription had been transferred to another Walgreens. Walgreens later reached out to the patient and apologized for how the situation was handled, but it is unclear whether Brian Hreniuc was reprimanded for his behavior. Arteaga filed a complaint with the Arizona Board of Pharmacy.
