Aramis Ayala is a State attorney in Florida. She was the Democratic Party (United States) candidate for a Florida State Attorney position. She opposes the Death penalty and reffused to seek the desth penalty in the Markeith Loyd case, leading to a conflict with Florida governor Rick Scott who seeks to have her removed from the case.
Ayala defeated Casey Anthony prosecutor Jeff Ashton in the 2016 primary, becoming Florida's first black state attorney.   In 2017 she came into conflict with Governor Rick Scott and other officials over her decision not to seek the death penalty for Markeith Loyd who killed his pregnant girlfriend and a police officer.

On March 16 2017, Ayala announced that she would not seek the death penalty for convicted cop killer Markeith Loyd.  Loyd killed his pregnant girlfriend as well as Lt. Debra Clayton. A second officer, Deputy Norm Lewis, was killed in a traffic collision during the manhunt for Loyd. 
She is originally from Saginaw, Michigan and is a cancer (lymphoma) survivor.  Her husband, David, was convicted as a drug conspirator and check counterfeiter.  She has two girls with him and has said he made mistakes in his past, people can recover and improve themselves.
