Wensel is a veteran software engineer and technical leader whose varied career spans education (Zoodles), research (UserTesting, Carnegie Institution at Stanford), healthcare (Cognoa), and entertainment (Sony, Playdom). She has also mentored and led workshops with diversity-focused organizations like Hackbright Academy and Black Girls Code.
Over the course of more than a decade in the software world, she has researched and experimented with solutions for addressing common problems and has ultimately devised a suite of strategies for harnessing the power of kindness and compassion to build effective software development teams.

Wensel developed genetic data processing solutions in Java, Perl, Python, and MySQL to import data from diverse sources into a central database and provide analysis and management tools to researchers.
She gathered and prioritized requirements from biologists and incorporated them into the tools and websites.

Software Engineer 2008 – 2009April Wensel worked as a software engineer for Sony Media Software & Services located in Francisco, CA.
She implemented a test automation framework in Python; wrote unit tests in C++ and Java for middleware and UI projects spanning Android, PlayStation 3, and PC systems. 
Researcher 2008 – 2008April Wensel did research for Pomona College located in Claremont, CA.
There she developed a text analysis system using a Bayesian network trained on movie reviews to visualize sentiment trends in blog text based on linguistic information (Java, C#, Python)

She worked as part of an effort to promote energy conservation, created an instant messaging bot using the AOL Java SDK to observe users’ computer usage habits and provide feedback about energy consumption. Creating data visualizations to persuade users to adjust their habits and conducting user research and presented findings.
