"Deep in the heart of Creedmoor, TX, in a home studio populated by two-string basses, drums and synth, there’s a dynamic duo making music that isn’t dictated by the latest trends. Alien Knife Fight isn’t interested in what the hottest thing is now. Their inspiration flows at all hours of the day and night, inspired by the ridiculousness and insanity that is real life.
At the heart of that creative outlet are songwriter, bassist and vocalist Monique Ortiz and drummer/percussionist Mike Howard, both of whom knighted their band with the name Alien Knife Fight as a tribute to their mutual fascination with UFO’s, cult classic films, and pretty much anything dealing with the paranormal. Ortiz is no stranger to heavy sounds and unconventional styles; the Pennsylvania College of Art grad spent 15 years in collaborative musical projects with Morphine saxophonist Dana Colley and Binary System drummer Larry Dersch (A.K.A.C.O.D.), and original Morphine drummer Jerome Durpee, guitarist Jim Moran and Either/Orchestra founder and saxophonist Russ Gershon (Bourbon Princess).
This year, AKF released their self-titled debut EP, a heavily bass-driven, badass 5-track collection influenced by punk, goth, and low rock in the vein of Joy Division, Morphine and a touch of Bauhaus. Not to mention a wry, wicked sense of humor."
