Alexandria was born in the Bronx to two working-class parents. Her father, Sergio Ocasio, was a small business owner from the South Bronx. Her mother, Bianca, was born in Puerto Rico, growing up around a large family near Arecibo. She grew up in a household where her mother cleaned homes and everyone pitched in on the family business.
Alexandria is an Alumni of the IntelSEF STEM research organization. She commuted to Yorktown in order to participate. "She was one of the best presenters we have had in the program," her teacher, Blueglass, said. "She is still the same great person today." Alexandria had been researching the Anti-aging effects of Anti-Oxidants. 
Immediately after the race, Joe played the Guitar in front of his supporters; he dedicated the song Born to Run by Bruce Springstein.  Mr. Crowley skipped a debate against Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, and instead sent a surrogate, a Latina former city councilwoman. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez called it “a bizarre twist” on Twitter to be seated across from someone “with slight resemblance to me” instead of her opponent.
Alexandria is an advocate of Immigration Feform in the US. She opposes the creation of a wall between the Mexico–United States border.  Further, Alexandria supports the abolition of Immigration Customs Enforcement. 
In the 2016 US Presidential Election, Alexandria was a Bernie Sanders supporter. Alexandria describes her Economic views as Socialist.  She favors Government housing and Medicare for all. She is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. 
Alexandria supports a one-time policy of student debt cancellation, in which the federal government cancels the loans it holds directly and buys back the financing of privately owned loans on behalf of borrowers to liberate generations of Americans trapped in student loan debt and holding back from participating in the greater US economy. 
Green New Deal
