Personal life

Hawley spent his childhood partly in Sheffield and partly in the UAE due to his parents' work.[4] In school, Hawley took A-Level Media Studies and took part in school plays, subsequently realising his dream of becoming a film director was very difficult.[4]

Hawley went to university and trained to become an actor at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London, England.[5]

Hawley's acting career began in 2007, when he began to appear in a number of TV series', film's and stage productions.

In 2014 he started his most prominent role, becoming the fourth actor to portray Robert Sugden on the ITV soap opera Emmerdale. His main story-lines have included: returning to the village with the White family, an affair with Aaron Livesy (Danny Miller), the manslaughter of Katie Sugden (Sammy Winward) and cover-up, being shot by Ross Barton (Michael Parr) in a "who dunnit?" story-line, supporting Aaron when discovering Aaron was sexually abused by his father Gordon Livesy (Gary Mavers), as a child, rekindling his relationship with Aaron and later becoming engaged to Aaron following a car crash in No Return week.
