Born in Auckland , New Zealand , she undertook her early training in Australia, and later at the Royal Ballet School . She then danced at Ballet Rambert (under Peggy van Praagh ) and The Royal Ballet . She returned to Australia in 1970, quickly rising to Resident Principal Dancer with the Australian Ballet , where she remained until 1976.
She is particularly noted for her partnerships with Rudolf Nureyev , first in the Nutcracker while with the Royal Ballet, and subsequently in the role of Kitri in Don Quixote for the Australian Ballet.
Lucette Aldous married Maurice Evelyn Forbes Fitzmaurice, a barrister, in 1960. They divorced in 1973.  She later married fellow artist Alan Alder . They have a daughter, Floeur Alder, who is also a dancer.
