Hot Chelle Rae (/ˌhɒt ˌʃɛl ˈr/ HOT SHEL RAY) is an American pop rock band formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 2005. The band consists of Ryan Follesé (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Nash Overstreet (lead guitar, backing vocals), and Jamie Follesé (drums). Their debut album, Lovesick Electric, was released on October 27, 2009.[3] They gained widespread attention for their 2011 double platinum single, "Tonight Tonight".


2005–2011: Early years

Hot Chelle Rae was formed in 2005, with the meeting between singer-songwriter, Ryan Follesé (born February 16, 1987) and guitarist Nash Overstreet (born January 3, 1986) who were the originally unsigned band Miracle Drug. Later, Overstreet's childhood friend Ian Keaggy (born June 16, 1987) joined the band as bass player. Ryan Follesé's younger brother, Jamie (born December 30, 1991), was then added into the band.[4] Overstreet is the son of country music singer-songwriter Paul Overstreet and the brother of actor Chord Overstreet. The Follesés are the sons of country songwriter Keith Follesé and Keaggy is the son of guitarist Phil Keaggy.[5]

In the summer of 2007, the band opened a sold out concert for rapper Lil Jon. Later in the year, they played a string of venues at South by Southwest, a music festival in Austin, Texas, and then went on tour with the band Vedera. The band were signed to Jive Records in October 2008. They began work on their first studio album, Lovesick Electric, which was released a year later in October 2009.

2011–12: Whatever and touring

Hot Chelle Rae released their second studio album, Whatever on November 29, 2011. It reached number 48 on the US Billboard 200, 25 in Australia and 21 in New Zealand. The first single taken from the album, "Tonight Tonight", released in March 2011, became a worldwide success, reaching the top ten of charts in Australia, Canada and Japan, whilst reaching number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song was certified double-platinum in the United States for sales of over two million copies. The second single, "I Like It Like That" (featuring New Boyz) was released in October 2011, reaching the top ten in New Zealand, the top twenty in Australia and Japan, and number 28 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Honestly" was released as the third and final single from the album in March 2012.

On December 31, 2011, the band performed on Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest, performing "Tonight Tonight" and "I Like It Like That". On January 29, 2012, the band played at the nationally televised 2012 Pro Bowl pregame ceremonies at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii, again performing the two tracks.[7] The group also performed "I Like It Like That" on the Hall of Game Awards on February 20, 2012. In March 2012, the band supported Taylor Swift on the Australian and New Zealand legs of her "Speak Now World Tour".[8][9] In the summer of 2012, the band toured with Demi Lovato. The band toured Australia and New Zealand through October to November with their "Whatever World Tour". British singer Cher Lloyd supported the band on this leg of the tour,[10] along with Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer and New Zealand boyband Titanium.[11]

2013–present: Recklessly

Hot Chelle Rae premiered a new single, "Hung Up" on January 25, 2013. It was officially released on February 12, 2013. The band also announced that their third studio album would be released in early 2014 as well as a new single. On October 31, 2013, Ian Keaggy announced that he would no longer be a part of Hot Chelle Rae.[2] That same day, Hot Chelle Rae released the unofficial version of "Recklessly" for the fans. On February 7, 2014 the band released their new single, "Don't Say Goodnight". Hot Chelle Rae have continued to tour the US throughout the year.

On October 1, 2014, Hot Chelle Rae released their new EP "Recklessly" in Japan as part of their Japan Tour. The EP includes "Don't Say Goodnight" and "Hung Up" as well as three new songs. These songs are confirmed to be appearing on their new studio album, and was released as a taste of what is to come [2]
