Justin Andrew Honard, better known by his stage name Alaska Thunderfuck and also known as Alaska Thunderfuck 5000, Alaska 5000, and mononymously as Alaska, is an American drag performer and recording artist.

Thunderfuck is known for competing in the fifth season of RuPaul's Drag Race, where she was a runner-up.

She returned for the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars, which she won.[68]

Early life

Honard was raised in Erie, Pennsylvania, graduating from Fort LeBoeuf High School in 2003.[3][71] He studied theater at the University of Pittsburgh.[5]

Honard has a half-brother named Cory Binney, with whom he stars in a World of Wonder web series, Bro'Laska. He also has an older sister Brooke, and a younger brother Ryan.

Career

2007–2012

Honard originally moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. Dissatisfied with the audition process, he turned to drag and got a job at the West Hollywood club, Fubar,[7] and frequently performed in Trannyshack shows in Los Angeles.[8]

In 2009, Honard performed in Palm Springs Gay Pride with Tammie Brown and Jer Ber Jones.[9]

Honard met future boyfriend Sharon Needles in December 2009 and moved back to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to live with him in 2010.[3]

Along with Needles and Cherri Baum, Honard formed the band Haus of Haunt, which later evolved into a drag troupe based out of the bar The Blue Moon.[10] As part of Haus of Haunt, he helped present the Pittsburgh debut of fellow drag queen and recording artist Christeene Vale in 2013.[11]

Thunderfuck later impersonated Vale for the music video "RuPaulogize" by Willam Belli.[68]

During this period Thunderfuck released her debut mixtape Glamtron.

2013–2015

It was announced in November 2012 that Thunderfuck was among 14 drag queens who would be competing as Alaska on the fifth season of RuPaul's Drag Race.[3][68] She had auditioned for every season for the show.[7]

As a RuPaul's Drag Race cast member, she sang on the "We Are the World"-inspired song "Can I Get an Amen?", sales of which benefitted the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center.[68]

Along with fellow competitor Roxxxy Andrews, she was declared runner-up of the fifth season of RuPaul's Drag Race during the season finale.

In October 2013, Thunderfuck performed as Dr. Frank N. Furter in the Woodlawn Theatre's production of The Rocky Horror Show in San Antonio, Texas.[17]

Since appearing on RuPaul's Drag Race, Thunderfuck has toured and performed regularly.[68][68][68]

During the summer of 2014, Thunderfuck starred in a stage production of Sex and the City.[68]

With half-brother Cory Binney, Thunderfuck has a web series sponsored by World of Wonder, called Bro’Laska.[21]

In September 2014, Thunderfuck became a spokesmodel for American Apparel.[68]

Thunderfuck has since pursued a music career, and has released a string of singles.

In June 2015, Thunderfuck's debut album, Anus, was released to positive reviews.[73][31][25][19][6]

2016–present

In 2016, Thunderfuck returned to Drag Race for the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars,[74] which she won.[75][76]

On October 14, 2016, Thunderfuck released her second album, Poundcake.

In August 2017, it was announced that Thunderfuck would compete in the first season of VH1's Scared Famous, which premiered on October 23, 2017.[77]

Artistry

Thunderfuck's drag name is derived from Alaskan Thunderfuck, a strain of marijuana.

Her drag character's back story revolves around being an alien from the planet Glamtron who crash-landed on Earth.[78][30]

She is Jer Ber Jones's drag daughter.[28]

She has cited Divine, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and Marilyn Monroe as her main influences.

Personal life

Thunderfuck was in a relationship with Sharon Needles for four years.[79][80]
